The course provides a
theoretical foundation and training for entry level jobs in print and
electronic media. The students are given insight into social,
political, economic issues and information needs of society.
Extensive discussions and debates on issues of development,
geopolitics and economic policies equip them with an advanced level of
knowledge and information. Students also take part in workshops and
seminars on media related issues to gain indepth understanding of
various aspects of media. Students are encouraged to think out of the
box and hone their research and investigative skills.
The
two-semester course devotes one complete semester for theoretical
grounding and building a knowledge base in the understanding of media
and contemporary issues. The second semester heavily emphasizes
hands-on practical training in print and broadcast news, with a special
focus on reporting, anchoring and program production.
All students are required to learn every aspect of functioning of
radio and television channels. In keeping pace with fast changing
technology and its implications for media work, the course is designed
to train scholars in "multi tasking" . The department
provides an all-round development of the students’ faculties,
both conceptual and practical. This is expected to give them a cutting
edge over others pursuing such courses elsewhere.
