IIMC Jammu – At a Glance

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication set up the Northern Regional Centre at Jammu in 2012 to extend its national footprint. The centre began operating out of Vikas Bhawan at Railhead Complex with an intake capacity of 15 students in the first batch. The centre runs one-year PG Diploma in English Journalism course and plans to start PG Diploma in Hindi Journalism from the 2022-23 session. The hostel and guesthouse for visiting faculty is situated at Gandhi Nagar.

In 2016, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir allotted 123 Kanaal (approximately 15 Acres) in Keran, Bantalab area of Jammu for construction of the permanent campus. Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the campus on February 3, 2019. The Civil Construction Wing (CCW) of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting stationed at Jammu is carrying on the construction of the complex. The construction is in full swing and is likely to be complete by the end of this year. The permanent campus has the administrative block, hostels for boys and girls and faculty quarters. A community radio station is also proposed to be set up on the campus. 

The mission of the Jammu campus is to create a dynamic learning and working environment which nurtures new ideas, creativity, research, scholarship, and develops leaders and innovators in the domain of mass media, communication and mass communication.

 Students of the Jammu campus have topped the IIMC examinations four times – in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2017-18 sessions.
