PG Diploma Course in Journalism (Urdu)

The foundation of Urdu Journalism in the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) was laid in the year 2013 with the introduction of a Diploma Course. After the successful initial experiments, it was converted into a Post Graduate Diploma Course in the year 2017. Like other PG Diploma courses of IIMC, it is also a one-year course. The prime objective of the course is to train the media professionals who can work as per the changing needs of the technology-driven Urdu media. In order to generate practical understanding of the Urdu media industry, some eminent journalists working in Urdu media are invited for guest lectures. For practical training the students produce lab journals. The present intake in Urdu Journalism is 17, and the course is offered at New Delhi campus only.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
 
  • To provide a wider perspective on communication in India.
  • To emphasize the role of journalists in promoting involvement and participation through effective communication.
  • To familiarize and equip them with a range of communication skills.
  • To develop proper communication strategies in priority areas.
  • To define opportunities for journalists/ communicators in view of emerging technologies.
  • To give exposure to new/evolving techniques of reporting/editing/production/ distribution.
  • To spell out the role of government media organisations and of private initiatives
