Journalist turned media academician Prof. (Dr.) Mrinal Chatterjee (born 1961) He did his D.Litt (2022) and PhD (2007) from Berhampur University and Masters in Mass Comm. (2001, GJU), Public Admn.(1999, UU) and English (1982, UU).
His research interests include Media and Society, Development Communication, Climate change and Sustainability, Partition Films, Cartooning in India, and Digital Media.
Before joining IIMC in 1999 as Associate Professor, he was Edition–in-Charge of North Odisha edition of Odia daily Sambad. As a journalist he extensively covered science and technology and has won journalists’ fellowship from Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi. He was also the recipient of K.K.Birla Memorial Fellowship. He presented a weekly science show ”Ajira Bigyan’ on E-TV (Odia) for over four years.
Dr. Chatterjee has authored six including the much acclaimed History of Journalism in Odisha; and edited four books on mass communication. He has published over 40 papers and eight book chapters. He writes extensively in newspapers and periodicals on media and related issues. He also writes fiction, plays and columns in English, Odia and Bengali. He has published seven novels and eight anthologies of short stories, many of which have been translated into several Indian and foreign languages. He has also published two books on environment and peoples' participation in environmental movements.
